Survey question rules

2 min read

Understand required answers, choices, limits, ordering, validation and historical safety.

Required and optional answers

In the Survey builder, the Required checkbox makes the public form validate that question before submission. Optional questions may be left unanswered. Validation follows the question type: ratings must be within the configured scale, NPS is 0–10, choice values must exist in the configured options, multiple-choice limits apply, and text respects its length limit.

Options and limits

For Single choice and Multiple choice, enter Choice options (one per line). ELUNIA removes blank and duplicate labels and requires at least two choices. Multiple choice can set minimum and maximum selections; maximum must be at least the minimum and cannot exceed the number of choices.

For Matrix / grid, the entered lines become row labels, with at most ten retained. Its five columns are currently fixed. Rating scales require a minimum from 0–10 and a greater maximum from 1–10.

Ordering, duplication and deletion

Use Move question up or Move question down to swap a question with its neighbor. Use Duplicate to create another independent question. Use Delete only after checking the confirmation. ELUNIA refuses to delete a question that already has historical answers. There is no conditional branching control in the current builder.

Edit safely

Survey questions can be edited while the Survey is Draft or Active. Changes are immediately the live definition used by later submissions, so preview and translation review are important before sending. Changing source content can make existing translations stale.

Completed Responses remain historically safe: each answer stores a snapshot of its original title, description, type, option/settings structure, position, metric type, scoring direction and measurement category. Editing labels or choices does not rewrite those snapshots. Stable choice values are retained by position where possible during label edits, but removing or rearranging choices should still be treated as a semantic change for future guests.
